The perception of what a Marketing team does is incredibly varied and misunderstood. More often than not blog posts and articles I read refer to “marketing” in terms of promotional programs. They discuss things like lead generation, how to use Twitter, improving landing page conversion, and the colors and fonts in the brochure. All important stuff, but this is the little “m” of marketing.
The big “M” of Marketing is about markets, buyers and finding market problems that need to be solved. It’s strategic and thoughtful. It makes your head hurt and it’s hard work.
